The French septet was born in 2001, the brainchild of rapper Korbo, from Burkina Faso, and programmer Serge Amiano. Fanga translates as “spiritual force” in Dioula, and the band has rooted its power in classic Afrobeat, remodelled with samples, electronic beats and Korbo’s vocals. “Afrofanga” was their first, promotional, six-track album. It was followed up in 2003 by “Afrokaliptyik”. In early 2006 Fanga released “Crache la douleur’, described by enthusiastic critics as “a meteor travelling from Lagos to France”. The lyrics centre on human rights, denounce North/South inequalities and promote the right to be different.
